Biogazelle is a Contract Research Organisation (CRO) renowned for its expertise in sequencing. This satellite of the University of Ghent, set up by one of our earliest laureates, Prof. Jo Vandesompele, together with Prof. Jan Hellemans, offers its state-of-the-art know-how of genome studies, micro-RNA and messenger RNA to university teams, pharmaceutical companies and biotech companies.
Biogazelle uses its cutting-edge expertise in genomics and transcriptomics (analysing genes and their dynamics) to identify and validate the biomarkers of the RNA (ribonucleic acid) family that indicate how effective, safe or toxic candidate drugs are. Three new workers have been hired to work on rolling out services into the international pharmaceutical industry. To support Biogazelle’s growth, the Foundation has injected a further €100,000 as additional financing, an initiative which has been taken up by all the historical investors in the company.
